Short answer In Mahjong Connect, also called Onet or 連連看, you clear the board by matching pairs of identical tiles. Two tiles can be matched only if they can be joined by a path of at most three straight lines, meaning at most two turns, that passes through empty cells. The path may run around the outside of the board. Clear every pair before the timer runs out.
The connection rule
- Pick two identical tiles.
- Draw an imaginary line between them using up to three straight segments (no more than two turns).
- The line can only pass through empty cells, or around the outside edge of the board.
- If such a line exists, both tiles disappear.
Timers, hints and shuffles
Most versions add a timer and give a few hints (which show a valid pair) and shuffles (which rearrange the remaining tiles when no moves are left). In Pet Pairs, quick matches also build a combo, and later levels add gravity, so tiles slide after each match.
Tips
- Clear tiles on the outside first; they are easiest to connect around the edge.
- Look for pairs that block many other tiles and remove them early.
- Save shuffles for when you are truly stuck.
Questions
Why is it called 連連看?
連連看 means roughly "link and look" in Chinese, after the line you draw to connect two tiles.
Is Mahjong Connect the same as Mahjong Solitaire?
No. In Mahjong Solitaire you remove free tiles from a stacked layout; in Mahjong Connect tiles lie flat and must be joined by a path with at most two turns.
